Ice Fishing

Cutting the hole with the ice auger

Scooping out the slush

Setting a tip-up in a secondary hole. “Tip-up” is the technical term for a fishing line attached to a flag that goes up when a fish bites, versus a fishing line attached to a pole held by a fisherman. A tip-up allows for more lines in more holes….which theoretically means catching more fish.

Back to the primary hole. Baiting the hook.

Got one!

Ivan sends the fish back home

Line back in the water and the wait begins again. Notice how Ivan is in every one of these photos, close at his Papa’s side. He’s fascinated by the concept of fishing. 🙂
